Met renowned psychologist from Mumbai Dr. Yusuf Matcheswala. Very humble man, rich experience with a soft voice sitting in his cozy worli office. We were six people including our camera man and his assistant, but he didn't object to it rather arranged the extra chair for all four of us. Plus there was a sofa and a bed was there in his cabin to check patients.
Discussion started with how he got an inclination towards psychology and counseling. He said in the early days of interns he noticed that all headaches are not just headaches and indigestion may be because of disturbed mental health.
Life is not the same for all, especially in congested Mumbai City. People have lots of challenges from job and business to family to health issues. All cannot be treated with same or similar medicine. He is thinking differently and treating patients differently with an added tadka of medicine with mild dose for psychological treatment.
During discussion he told us his journey from his marriage after mbbs and during his MD first year. Yes, it was love marriage and by the time he completed his final year he was the father of two. Infact when it was the day of delivery of his second son the same day he was having his first paper or final year. Life is full of sacrifices and at very personal level too.
He worked with Masina Hospital and many other places doing consulting and at polyclinics finally before settling down at his own clinic at Worli.
Gem of a person, who never interrupts and listens to you very carefully. Of course his profession demand the same. That day learnt a lot from him, listening is very basic skill for a counsellor & psychologist.
Long live Dr. Yusuf Matcheswala, Aameen
